Come one and come all next Saturday (December 1) to the FLEA AFFAIR: an alternative flea market/arts & crafts shindig for art, zines, clothing, jewelery, and many other curios!

It'll be followed by a cocktail partay with live music and possible film screening!

It'll take place from 11am to 6pm at the Centro Gallego de Montréal, located on St-Laurent, between Mt. Royal and Villeneuve.

Wooooot!

Strange that this is happening so close to Expozine. But no matter. I'd like to check it out.

re: Cocktails: things of the red and fizzy variety!...in addition to the regular stuff: beer, wine, etc.

This isn't trying to compete with Expozine (or anything else, for that matter) at all. There are just so many local artisans, artists, craftspeople, etc. in this town without a regular venue to sell their stuff, and so we just thought we'd try to make up for that.

I had never been to Rusty Plum, but it sounded pretty cool. Though we're not related at all, it seems to have come from a similar place/sentiment.

Don't have the full vendor list yet, as it is still being added to. Here's a sample of some of the vendors :

Pin Pals/Le Coque Rouge: handmade paper puppets, pins, t-shirts

Lickety Split Smut Zine: your favorite local smut zine (just released its fifth installment, the Multiples Issue)

Instant Crimson: glass jewelery - glob bracelets, pendants, magnets, etc.

Scarableu Design: t-shirts, art prints, greeting cards

Humble Bumble: gentle, natural handmade soap

Minnow Design: fashion design - bathers and body suits - featured in the Puces Pop Fashion show.

Renate Gold: an assortment of recycled handbags, lamps and decorative ornaments made from things like old chip bags!

Aline: awesome hand tossed ceramics

The Luxury: culinary design and indulgent delights

Roger's Punjabi Delights: homemade herbal blend teas and a variety of delectable East Indian treats!

And a whole lot more...

All in all, it'll be a pretty awesome day to check out some local and out-of-town stuff, drink some hot and cold beverages and hopefully get some of that holiday shopping done early in the game.

Oh - and the amazing and majestic COAL CHOIR will be performing!!!!

rusty plum is not really happening anymore but the torched was passed last year with Cups and Cakes -- which is happening in a few weeks (mid-december, I think) in the same space as Expozine.

Expozine doesn't have exhibitors with only crafts to sell, so there's no competition at all. I'm looking forward to this new one!

Their t-shirts would make for an awesome Kwanzaa gift. I've always been tempted to buy one everytime I see them at Puces, Expozine and elsewhere, but never had the cash on me. I think I'll finally head down cash-in-hand to get one this time.

Look at these two.... adorable!

i bought that t-shirt at puces pop!

the best thing about it by far, is that its printed on aa's 50/50 blend tshirt, which is SUPER SOFT and has a way more flattering fit than their regular tshirts.

i wish more designers and bands would print on those, they are only 50c more and waaaaay better

This is TODAY!!!!!!

In case you may still be wondering where exactly it is, you'll see the signs on St-Laurent as you walk up from Mt-Royal or down from Villeneuve.
