Author Topic: The Monthly Mile-End Spelling Bee  (Read 1353 times)

It's Bee season.

Dust off your wings,
stop fucking the flowers,
and come out to the first
Monthly Mile-End Spelling Bee.

While professional bees are
unforgivingly arduous trials,
at the MMESB, we have a
moderately milder "two strikes" rule,
and various coupons that can be
used throughout the night, such as
"Ask a Friend to Spell your Word"
"Pass on This One" and "Word-Swap"
that have to be used strategically.

Top three winners of the evening will
receive paperback book prizes kindly
donated by the Quebec Writer's Federation.

Additionally, the best speller of the
evening will get their name spelled out in
Scrabble Tiles and made into a nametag,
as well as a small jar of creamed honey.

This all takes place at
Le Cagibi, Sunday September 14th.
5490 Blvd. St-Laurent (corner St-Viateur)

Registration is at 7:30 PM.
Bee is at 8 PM.
$5

Please note that to keep things manageable,
we will cap the total number of spellers, sweetly, at 16.
If we get that lucky.

Hee hee.
My tagline for this event on the Facebook page is
actually taken from Rocky Horror -

Don't dream it.
Bee it.

But I like yours too.

i'd really be into this, if i didn't get so nervous in front of other people! i was not-nervous and an awesome speller, as a kid. i came in second place at the central ontario spelling bee championship, in the 6th grade.
adult embarrassments and teenage drug use have made me nervous and kind of illiterate. BUT MAYBE! this is a really good idea!

$5 to bee there or $5 to register?

Both.
We have to cap the number
of spellers at 16 tho because
of time constraints.

We also start off with somewhat
difficult words to spell,
then progress to moderately hard,
then devastatingly challenging.

From Difficult to moderately hard?  Isn't that a step backwards of sorts?  For a word thread, your lack of thesaurus use is uninspiring.

I actually suck at spelling.
That's why I organize spelling bees
instead of participating in them.
