A well-known Queen St. W. bike dealer is facing charges after he was arrested at his store last night by plainclothes cops who alleged they watched him direct a man with bolt-cutters to cut the locks off two nearby bikes and steal them.
Igor Kenk, 49, owner of the Bicycle Clinic at Queen St. W. and Strachan Ave., was put in handcuffs just after 7 p.m. by Consts. James Rowe and Craig Meredith, who were watching the corner as part of a "bait-bike" sting. http://www.torontosun.com/News/TorontoAndGTA/2008/07/17/6181516-sun.html |

Hey, I wrote that shit! I was there when it went down. And they weren't even trying to bust him. They had planted an unlocked bait bike at the corner (one of at least half a dozen locations), and lo and behold, some dude was cutting locks on other bikes with bolt cutters. Right in full view of everyone! Seriously, it was like 7 p.m., broad daylight. Even the cops were surprised by how blatant it was. Maybe now he'll sell his store for the $600,000 he's been offered for it.

I'm surprised it's taken this long, but I do believe he was busted more than once at his shop when it was further west on the north side of Queen Street. Unlike his current bunker, the former place didn't have so much stuf lying around that resembled a night of smash-and-grabs from various cars. He also drives a pick-up truck (with 'eager 1' vanity plates, cute pun) and I've heard he goes on 'search and grab' missions with it, but that was courier scuttlebut. I've heard he has a house as well.

Yeah I read that... and I'm pretty sure Brett read it, since he wrote it! It seemed Igor had some well rehearsed lines to fend off criticism/suspicions. |

i really don't know what they are entitled to do or how they will identify the bikes that are stolen (100% probably).
he was caught directing a man to do the work for him, so i have to imagine that he will be tried for organizing crime... which might lock him up for longer than tonight... hopefully.
i would have to guess that the bikes cannot be legally returned unless a report is filed, so do that... but jay's probably right.
they might take a description, but that's too vague i think. when i did it they gave me the 'you're an idiot, who cares' vibe.
the rest will go to police auction for cheap.
