YACHT ROCK III
A NIGHT OF DANCING TO THE SMOOTHEST MUSIC YOU'VE EVER HEARD IN YOUR LIFE.
Friday, April 18, 2008 at 10:00pm
@ The Boat (could it be anywhere else?)
158 Augusta Avenue (in Kensington Market)
$5 to step aboard

w/ DJ JJ and DJ SHANDY

"YACHT ROCK" is a name for the popular soft rock that peaked between the years of 1976 and 1984. Significant "yacht rockers" include Michael McDonald, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, and Toto. While the music existed for years, popular usage of the term yacht rock is relatively new, coming into circulation through the online comedy series of the same name (go to www.yachtrock.com if you're unfamiliar. It does not disappoint).  Love the Smooth!  Love it!

So I'm not alone in thinking this.  I said the same thing about Peter Elkas when I saw him at the taping of that Bravo special last Friday.  That's some smooth music. He even looked like the guy who plays Loggins.

I may be the only person who loves the Jethro Tull episode, though it's nto my favourite.  But I'm plesantly enamoured with the new one with Jason Lee as Kevin Bacon.  I was worried that any comeback attempt would suck like, well, almost all comeback attempts...but they knocked it out of the park!

I saw Local Rabbits play live a few times, and you could totally FEEL the love for Steely Dan.  I think they had a rhodes going thru some sort of chorus/phase effect, and it was so right...So smooth.

And it's true..I never noticed how Loggins Peter Elkas was...Good on that one!  I guess that means Ben Gunning would be like Christopher Cross...Only an octave higher.

I really wanted to go to this, but alas, I am playing already. Shandy, you should play Shandi by Kiss...it truly is Kiss' yacht classic.

That was a real good time.  It's really cool to see so much support for something as fun/lighthearted/gimmicky as this.  There was a decent-sized crowd and everybody was well-behaved and having a great time.  Kudos to whoever put this thing together and everyone that attended.  I had fun.
